This Index of Birth, Marriage, Death announcements and other genealogical related information in the Huntingdon Gleaner is intended as a research tool to compliment the Gleaner collection at the Chateauguay Valley Historical Society Archives. It covers the 1984-2008 time period.
Certain conventions have been adopted for this index:
- Married women are listed under both their maiden name and married names.
- Where the name of a wife or husband of a principal is known, it is shown in the "Alternate Name" column preceeded by h/o (husband of) or Mrs. salutation.
- French forms (e/d (epoux de) and Mme.) are indicated when the names of the principals or their children suggest a francophone family.
- Births are indexed by the traditional father's surname. If the names of the parents are not obvious as to which surname applies to the father, two hyphenated entries are indexed.
- Engagements, weddings and wedding receptions/parties are listed under both the bride and groom's names.
- The dates of wedding receptions/parties (resulting from an invitation to the public) are not shown in the EVENT DATE column since the event is not always held on the same day as the wedding. To avoid confusion that may result from different dates for the wedding and party, it was decided to not show the date of receptions. Marriage announcement (Type code = AM) have the wedding date shown if known.
- [name] ? or ? [name] is used to indicate an unknown maiden name or husband's given name. Note the space between the ? and the name. A few entries will have ? shown with no space between it and the name. This indicates an uncertainty as to the accuracy of the name.
The type of announcement or notice is indicated by a 2 letter code.
